Lionel Messi shocked the footballing world on Wednesday. After weeks of speculation regarding his club future, the Argentine forward revealed that he agreed to join Inter Miami.
While many were initially surprised that Messi agreed to take his talents to MLS, this was not the case with Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar. The Brazilian international, who has been in Miami, Florida to attend the Miami Heat’s home games in the 2023 NBA Finals, was among the first to know that Messi chose Inter Miami.
“So, I already knew that he would come here, and we already talked,” Neymar said during an interview on the NBA Brasil’s YouTube channel. “I said to him that he would be very happy because of the city, the lifestyle, and the opportunity of playing and living here in Miami.”
There has been much discussion as of late over just how Messi will perform with Inter Miami later this year. In the big picture, Neymar believes that the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner will “change” MLS.
“I am sure that Leo will change the league here in the US,” Neymar said. “I think the league will become much more popular.”
It remains to be seen just when Messi will make his debut for Inter Miami.
