Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi continues to show that he still can be a world-class playmaker at this stage in his career.
Messi is just coming off of a potent performance in PSG’s Ligue 1 away fixture against Strasbourg. The Argentine forward did not log an assist in PSG’s 1-1 draw result with Strasbourg, although he did create a trio of goal-scoring chances in the contest.
Overall, Messi has tallied 30 assists since the 2021-2022 league season, which is the most among all players in Europe’s top five leagues over this time span, as noted by Ligue 1’s official English-speaking Twitter account.

Messi recorded 14 assists in the 2021-2022 Ligue 1 season, which ranked just behind Kylian Mbappe for the top spot on this leaderboard. The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner has chipped in with 16 assists in Ligue 1 play this season, which leads all players in France’s top flight.
Messi will have an opportunity to make history in his upcoming final match with PSG against Clermont Foot. He is a mere three assists away from breaking Angel Di Maria’s record (18 in the 2015-2016 season) for the most assists in a single Ligue 1 season.
