The future of Kylian Mbappé remains uncertain to an extent. The 24-year-old wants to stay with Paris Saint-Germain for the 2023-24 season; however, he chose not to trigger the option to extend his contract until 2025.
As the summer transfer window is open and talks over PSG open to selling the France international, Marquinhos weighed in on the Mbappé case as the forward could be done with the capital club.
“If he wants to stay, we also want him to stay,” Marquinhos told Brazilian media outlet Globo. “He’s a genius, a pure talent, a leader for PSG, and he’s very important to us. Every summer, we talk a lot about him, but it’s is a PSG player and he wants to stay. We’ll see what happens. We players want him to stay. It’s very important that he stays because we have ambitions.”
Furthermore, Marquinhos noted that he sees his teammate happy in Paris. If Mbappé does remain with PSG past this summer, then it’s likely the team will be built around him this season, with Lionel Messi leaving and Neymar Jr. having an uncertain future.
“Is he happy in Paris? Yes, I see him happy. His statistics, his goals, his performances on the pitch show it. He is a player who does a lot of things at PSG and who is important for that the team is at a high level. He is an important player, who does things well and who has improved a lot in recent years.”
It will be interesting to see if PSG decides to move on from their superstar player. The primary interested party is Real Madrid, but it seems the Ligue 1 side will sell Mbappé to the highest bidder.
