Competition for Real Madrid? Ornstein Sees This Premier League Side Vying for Mbappé

The future of Kylian Mbappé has many, even journalists wondering where the 24-year-old will play in the 2023-24 season.

Mbappé wants to play the next campaign at Paris Saint-Germain; still, with his contract expiring next summer, it wouldn’t be wise to have a season filled with rumors and distractions.

Once the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner opted not to trigger the option to extend his contract until 2025. The Atheltic’s David Ornstein answered transfer window mailbag questions published on Thursday about the PSG star possibly heading to Real Madrid or Manchester United.

“Let’s say he moves — the first question then is ‘Where?’. Real Madrid have been most heavily-linked but you imagine there would be competition,” Ornstein wrote. “For example, teams such as Manchester United also need a new forward. Right now, demand for that position is higher than supply.

“Mbappe entering the market would increase the talent pool and could make it easier for clubs to recruit. But it might also block the path for someone such as Harry Kane if Madrid or Manchester United were planning to push for him but then choose to focus on Mbappe.”

Both clubs need a striker heading into next season, and Mbappé would fill that position for the foreseeable future.

The summer transfer window is just beginning, but the Mbappé transfer saga appears to be the one many follow. If the Mbappé era at PSG does end in the coming months, then it means the French giants are heading into a full rebuild.
