Barcelona, Messi Reunion Is Possible After Sergio Busquets’ Exit, Javier Tebas Says

This week Barcelona and Sergio Busquets announced that the veteran midfielder would leave the club once his contract expires on June 30.

Busquets’ departure from the Catalan side is seen with good eyes by La Liga president Javier Tebas. The league chief believes that the 34-year-old leaving may facilitate the return of Messi.

However, Tebas does note that the Spanish club still has some economic operations left for the return of the Argentine star.

“Busquets’ departure is the beginning of the road for Messi to return,” Tebas told COPE (h/t Mundo Deportivo). “But to reach the end, they still have to walk many meters. I am not the one to give them the green light; it will be their financial control.”

The economic vice-president also revealed that Barcelona will have to offload players to register new ones, so it echoes what Tebas is stating if the Spanish club wants Messi back, there will need to be several exits.

As for Messi, Barcelona isn’t the only rumor surrounding the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner, as a move to Saudi Arabia and MLS side Inter Miami are also floating around.

These next few weeks will bring more information as the Argentine hits free agency.
