FC Barcelona is doing everything conceivable for Lionel Messi to return this summer. The Argentine will become a free agent when his contract expires on June 30, allowing him to sign anywhere.
The Spanish club’s director of football, Mateu Alemany, was asked about them possibly preparing for the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner’s return. The 60-year-old’s response was one that he feels Barcelona will address later.
“Should we prepare for the return of Messi? Leo finishes the French championship,” Alemany said. “It’s time to respect PSG. When they win the championship, we’ll see what happens.”

Barcelona is coming off clinching the 2022-23 La Liga title, so perhaps Alemany doesn’t want to take away from what this current squad has accomplished. Nonetheless, the media continues to ask its players about Messi’s possible return.
Players like Pedri, Frenkie de Jong and Ronald Araujo have answered when questioned about Messi playing at Camp Nou for the 2023-24 season.
A recent report revealed that the Spanish club has begun to make the first steps to reunite with Messi as they have made an initial offer of €25 million per season salary with a contract until 2025.
