Wayne Rooney Hopeful Messi Spurns Barcelona to Join MLS’ Inter Miami

FC Barcelona will pull every lever this summer to reunite with Lionel Messi. However, if La Liga rejects their financial package allowing them to bring back the 35-year-old, Messi has to look at other options.

There are two other options that the 2022 FIFA World Cup can consider and that’s a move to MLS side Inter Miami. The South Florida club has made no secret their desire to lure the veteran goal scorer.

Ex-Manchester United star and current D.C. United coach Wayne Rooney is excited at the prospect of Messi joining MLS. Furthermore, Rooney notes that the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner comes to the United States.

“I think wherever Messi plays, and of course, it’s going to be good for the league,” Rooney said (h/t Stadium Astro). “And obviously, there’s rumors that he’s going to join Inter Miami, which, if he does, the league will be great.

“And I think if the time is right if that happens, I think we’re potentially the first game he’ll play against so forward to trying to stop him, if that’s the case.

While Inter Miami is a serious non-European option, so is Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal. Messi already is an ambassador for the country, so it makes sense that the league would want for the former Barcelona star to arrive, especially on the heels of having Cristiano Ronaldo.

Where will Messi sign? Only time will tell, but it might be sooner than everyone expects.
