Video: Messi Dropped a Special Shoutout After Winning a Prestigious Award

Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi made more room in his trophy cabinet on Monday, as he won the 2023 Laureus World Sportsman of the Year honor.

Messi put together quite a resume for the honor last year, and he put the finishing touches on it at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where he led the Argentina national team to triumph.

Messi, who became the first footballer ever to win two Laureus World Sportsman of the Year awards, accepted the honor during the annual Laureus World Sports Awards ceremony on Monday. He gave an acceptance speech after being announced the winner of the prestigious honor, and he dedicated the award win to “all of Argentina.”

“I could achieve my dream and the whole country’s and although it was late, it was the best thing that has happened to me and to everybody as a country after waiting for so long,” Messi said.

“So I would like to share this award with all of Argentina.”

Messi led the way for Argentina at the 2022 World Cup with a team-high 10 goal contributions.
