Paris Saint-Germain will likely have a new manager for the 2023-24 season, as Christophe Galtier has an uncertain future with the French giants. The name circulating to replace Galtier is Jose Mourinho.
Over the last few weeks, various reports have linked the “Special One” to take over the PSG managerial job. However, Le Parisien (h/t Paris Fans) reports that the 60-year-old might remain at AS Roma, where he has one more year left on his contract after this 2022-23 season.
The French media outlet notes that sporting advisor Luis Campos and Mourinho might not risk their friendship by working together daily as it could strain it.
“In detail, nothing concrete exists,” Le Parisien wrote. “According to our information, no negotiations have been started between his agent, Jorge Mendes, and Luis Campos. He is not PSG’s plan A in the event of an expected separation with Christophe Galtier.
“Relations are even stronger between Mourinho and Campos, two friends of thirty years. They spend endless time on the phone chatting and have even worked together before. In 2010, when the coach was appointed to Real Madrid, Luis Campos was included in his extended staff.
“They know each other by heart and share the same eruptive character. But it is precisely in the name of this friendship that they do not want to break that they do not intend to work together again. They believe that she would not resist the vagaries of daily work, even more, particularly at PSG, a club really like no other. As long as Luis Campos is a leader in Paris, it seems inconceivable to see his friend land at the Camp des Loges.”
As a result, if the reporting is accurate, then Campos might be pivoting toward another target and the other name currently linked to PSG is Bologna’s Thiago Motta. The former midfielder spent time in the French capital from 2012 o 2018, so he knows the market.
Even with this, a Motta hire would be a significant risk considering he hasn’t manager outside Genoa, Spezia and Bologna, who aren’t competing for trophies in Serie A.
Motta might be the right guy, or perhaps Campos might have another person in mind if he does decide to move from Galtier.
