PSG Will ‘Regret’ How They Treated Lionel Messi, Ex-Player Says

The Lionel Messi suspension saga put the 35-year-old in a negative light as former players such as Rivaldo slammed the Argentine for his behavior.

PSG suspended Messi due to the Argentine’s unauthorized trip to Saudi Arabia. While the 2022 FIFA World Cup is receiving, people like his former teammate Javier Mascherano are also defending him.

Mascherano believes that the capital club will regret how they treated the veteran goal scorer.

“It’s a shame not to realize the type of player they were lucky enough to have in their team, Mascherano told D Sports radio (h/t RMC Sport). I think that ten years ago, no Parisian supporter would have imagined having in their team the best player in history. And instead of liking him, they spent these two years criticizing him.

“In 10 years, they will regret it, continued Javier Mascherano. Any team in the world would give anything to have it for five minutes … if there is one thing where Leo cannot be criticized, it is his professionalism.”

Messi apologized to the club and its supporters on Friday that he published through his social media accounts. The next question is whether the veteran goal scorer will play for the French giants once his suspension is over.

PSG will have three games remaining in their 2022-23 Ligue 1 season, and the French giants are currently fighting to stay on top of the league, so if Messi’s campaign is done, they may have put their chances of winning a trophy in jeopardy.
