Messi Makes Key Demand to Barcelona as Argentine Set to Hit Free Agency – Report

Paris Saint-Germain's Argentine forward Lionel Messi celebrates scoring his team's first goal during the French L1 football match between RC Strasbourg Alsace and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) at Stade de la Meinau

Lionel Messi might have learned his lesson in 2021. The Paris Saint-Germain star waited until August to possibly sign a contract extension with FC Barcelona, but that never occurred.

Barcelona could not register Messi’s extension due to their financial situation, resulting in the Argentine leaving in tears at a press conference. As a result, Messi might have no interest in waiting until the Catalan club sent an official offer.

Spanish journalist Marta Ramon Gorina recently reported that Messi’s idea is not to delay his decision. Instead, he is waiting for Barça to send him an official offer.

The club has only made an informal bid of €13 million net per season on a one-year contract with an option for another year, which Messi agrees with, but he needs a formal offer to analyze everything.

Barcelona cannot proceed with signing Messi as they have to wait until La Liga approves their financial package and offload players that would allow them to fit the 35-year-old’s wages under the league’s salary cap.

Furthermore, the reporting from various outlets might indicate that the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner wants his future resolved so he can enjoy his summer and not have a repeat of 2021.
