Paris Saint-Germain’s woes in the second half of the season continued on Ligue 1 matchday 33, as it came away with a 3-1 home defeat to Lorient.
PSG never had firm control of this Ligue 1 fixture. The reigning Ligue 1 champions fell behind early in the first half following a goal from Lorient midfielder Enzo Le Fee. Kylian Mbappe managed to level the score up at 1-1 later in the first half, but this goal from the French forward wound up being the lone time that PSG hit the back of the net in this contest.
PSG has now lost nine matches in all competitions in the calendar year. Overall, PSG manager Christophe Galtier sees that “too many players” have not been playing up to par in the second half of the season.
“We have too many players below their level in this second half of the season,” Galtier said during his post-match press conference.
Galtier also made clear that PSG must finish this season on a strong note, especially as Olympique de Marseille and RC Lens have been in keen form in Ligue 1 play as of late.
“We just have to make the players react,” Galtier said. “We can’t have this kind of content. … Overall, it’s a big disappointment. We have to react quickly.
“We don’t know how many points we will have at the end of the day. OM and Lens are running at full speed in the second half of the season. Ours is very average.”
PSG currently holds a five-point lead over second-place side Marseille atop the Ligue 1 standings.
