Former French Forward Explains Why PSG Must Not Consider Keeping Galtier

Former French forward Jerome Rothen has called for Paris Saint-Germain to part ways with manager Christophe Galtier after this season.

Galtier won his second trophy as manager of PSG on Saturday, as the side clinched this season’s Ligue 1 title. All that PSG needed from its Ligue 1 away fixture against Strasbourg was a draw result to be crowned Ligue 1 champions. In the end, PSG secured a 1-1 draw result on Ligue 1 matchday 37 to win Ligue 1 for the second consecutive season.

Even with this achievement, Rothen believes that PSG should not bring back Galtier for next season.

“When you have a squad like PSG’s, there must be clearer outlines than this year,” Rothen said during a Monday airing of his “Rothen s’enflamme” program. “There’s no typical team, no style. … He’s tested a lot of things.

“But when you test so much with these players, after a while you lose the pedals, and it showed in the game. … There have been nine defeats in the last 27 games. One defeat every three games. When you’re called PSG, it’s inconceivable.”

From Galtier’s standpoint, he believes that he should stay put at PSG. He noted during a post-match press conference following PSG’s draw result against Strasbourg that he “deserves” to remain as PSG manager.

Galtier is under contract with PSG for the 2023-2024 season.
