Barcelona’s Pedri Speaks Out on Messi Rumors Amid Links to Camp Nou Return

FC Barcelona hasn’t been lowkey about their intentions this summer to reunite with Lionel Messi. The Argentine’s contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires on June 30; afterward, Messi will become a free agent.

The Spanish club reportedly made its first offer to the 35-year-old with a two-year contract and a €25 million yearly salary. If Messi accepts the proposal, Pedri will happily reunite with the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

In speaking with GOAL, the midfielder noted his reaction to seeing Messi return to Camp Nou this summer after witnessing his former teammate leave the club in 2021 with tears in his eyes.

“I would like Messi to come back to Barcelona,” Pedri told GOAL. “It depends on Barcelona and Leo. But as far as I’m concerned, I hope he comes back.”

Messi has three more games left in the 2022-23 Ligue 1 season and it seems he’s keen on finishing out the campaign before addressing his future. Barcelona appears to be the primary European destination; however, there are other interested parties.

Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hilal and MLS side Inter Miami are linked to the player; however, Messi reportedly wants to remain in Europe, so those two destinations appear to be long shots.
