FC Barcelona players are commenting on whether the Spanish club will be bringing back Lionel Messi this summer. The 35-year-old’s contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires on June 30; as a result, the rumors of a return are running wild.

Recently players like Pedri and Ronald Araujo have shared their thoughts on Messi possibly returning to Barcelona. The latest is now midfielder Frenkie de Jong, who commented on the rumors when speaking to a Dutch media outlet.

“Messi is a fantastic player,” de Jong told Ziggo Sport. “It would be amazing if he comes back. But I don’t know if it’s going to happen.”

Messi has three more games left in the 2022-23 Ligue 1 season and it seems he’s keen on completing the campaign before handling his future. Barcelona seems to be the primary European destination; however, other interested parties exist.

The Spanish club has reportedly begun to make the first steps to reunite with Messi as they have made an initial offer of €25 million per season salary with a contract until 2025.

Another possible hurdle is the hesitation Messi’s father might have as the Spanish tax authority is a concern if the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner does return to La Liga.
