Kylian Mbappe is a Paris Saint-Germain player until 2025 as the 24-year-old signed a contract extension last year to remain with his hometown club, spurning Real Madrid in the process.
However, former French footballer Emmanuel Petit believes it’s time for the PSG star to leave the Parc des Princes if he wants to reach another level in his career.
“Can I choose both? It’s a very tough choice, but I am going to pick Mbappe because I am French,” Petit told Legal Sportsbook (h/t AS) when asked who should leave PSG this summer Lionel Messi or Mbappe.
“Also because this guy has been a superstar since he was 17 years old. He has broken all the records in France. But if he wants to win the Champions League and become the best player in the world and win the Ballon d’Or, I think he should leave PSG.”
Additionally, Petit believes the door is still open for Mbappe to join Real Madrid despite turning down the Spanish giants and most of their supporters claiming that the train to join Los Blancos only comes once.
“I think the door is still open for him at Real Madrid, although perhaps less than it was two years ago,” Petit continued. “I think Florentino Perez said recently that if he wants to come to Madrid, he will always be welcome, but that he should think twice about his salary.
“The last time, he signed a three-year contract with PSG, although the last season is optional. So next season could be a turning point for him.”
Mbappe appears keen on winning the UEFA Champions League with his hometown club, knowing what it would mean to the city of Paris.
Furthermore, winning Europe’s top competition with Real Madrid would be an outstanding achievement, but he’d join many players to reach this feat. Meanwhile, at PSG, Mbappe could be the first and become a legend.
