FC Barcelona intends to do everything possible to be financially stable to have Lionel Messi return to La Liga and Spanish football. Nonetheless, it’s challenging, but supporters and executives are highly optimistic.
Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) president Luis Rubiales spoke about the possible return of the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner, noting that any fan of La Liga wants the league to have the best players.
“But in terms of his possible return, I’m not getting involved,” Rubiales said at an event held by the Andorran Football Federation (FAF) (h/t AS). “Everyone in Spain and all the followers of Spanish football want the best players to be in our league …
“Mind you, it’s only a question for him or Barcelona who are the team negotiating… or not, because we don’t know … Messi is unique in the world and I will always wish him the best. If he comes back, he will be welcomed with open arms.”
La Liga is used to having the best players as they had Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, with the rivalry at its peak between the two footballers. So it is no surprise that those in Spain want to return to that era.
Nonetheless, Barcelona has to pull all the levers to see if they can afford the salary that Messi will command and even if they do, it will be up to La Liga to have the final say. The league will not make any exceptions, so many will be waiting to see what happens.
