Rumors and reports surface daily regarding the future of Lionel Messi, whose contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires in June.
Depending on what and who you want to believe, the 35-year-old is either heading to FC Barcelona for a return to Camp Nou or monitoring how the capital club will build the squad for the 2023-24 season.
Before PSG’s Ligue 1 contest against Olympique Lyonnais, manager Christophe Galtier spoke with reporters about the constant rumors surrounding Messi’s future.
“What will happen next season? We are working on it a lot with the management and Luis Campos,” Galtier said (h/t Culture PSG). “There is obviously what we want to do but also the positions of the players, of each other, of the club too, which we have to modify quite significantly, which we also have to improve.
“Regarding Leo’s future, there’s his position; there’s the club’s. It talks between the two parties. I’m focused on the ten matches that come up to get this title of champion of France. As for knowing what Leo or the club will decide, it remains very confidential.”
The French giants would be wise to move on from Messi, considering the club can use the wages they use on the Argentine to build more depth on the team this summer.
Additionally, if the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner doesn’t want to lower his salary, it would be hard to justify keeping him knowing how much he’d make and being 36 years old when the 2023-24 season starts.
It will be interesting to see what PSG decides to do with June now being a couple of months away.
Hahahaha. Do you know how much money PSG still makes because of Lio?😄😄
