Transfer News: PSG Preparing Swoop of Newcastle United’s €60M Midfielder, per Report

The midfield was the focal point for sporting advisor Luis Campos during the 2022 summer transfer window and it appears it will have to be again this year after a couple of signings have failed to impress.

Campos will likely be in the market to revamp the position and one of the targets is reportedly Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimarães. Brazilian media outlet iG Esporte reported on Monday that PSG has the 25-year-old among their list of midfield targets.

Guimarães would fill the need of that Thiago Motta No. 6 defensive midfielder at the position. However, getting the Brazilian to return to Ligue 1 will be challenging, considering he’s under contract until 2026.

Additionally, the midfielder is an essential player for the Magpies, so they’re reportedly discussing a contract extension. Despite playing in that defensive role, it hasn’t stopped him from contributing offensively this 2022-23 season.

The former Olympique Lyonnais star has scored four goals and recorded four assists in 32 appearances in all competitions for Newcastle.

Nonetheless, suppose Newcastle, who’s currently in fourth place, fails to hold onto a UEFA Champions with Tottenham Hotspur three points behind them. In that case, PSG can use playing in Europe’s top competition as a bargaining chip to lure Guimarães back to France.

Regarding a possible transfer fee, Transfermarkt puts the midfielder’s value at €60 million, so if this is indeed the target that Campos has in mind to revamp the midfield, it will not come cheap.

  1. Doubt he’s for sale, they don’t need the money, and if they did would need double that figure.
