FC Barcelona is pulling out all the stops to reunite with Lionel Messi this summer when his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires.
It’s reported that the Spanish club has an offer for the Argentine, but for a return, the veteran goal scorer would need to take a massive pay cut. Additionally, Sport reported on Friday that Barcelona roughly knows by when they’d like to have Messi in their squad.
The Catalan media outlet notes that Barcelona would want the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner to be available to go on the tour of the United States with the team, scheduled from July 19th through the 30th.
Barcelona manager Xavi would like to count on the Argentine because the coach has a lot of work ahead of him to fit him into his system of play, which will have to undergo some modifications. Furthermore, having Messi on the American tour would also mean more money for the club.
Nonetheless, while the La Liga side wants Messi before they cross the Atlantic Ocean this summer, the financial side will be the hurdle they’ll need to overcome as the league will have the final say.
La Liga president Javier Tebas offered a gloomy outcome for a Messi return to Camp Nou. So, it will be interesting to see if Barcelona can comply with the salary cap as they look to add the PSG star.
