Lionel Messi will become a free agent when his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires. As a result, FC Barcelona is doing everything possible to reunite with the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner.
However, the main hurdle is the finances. But, Sport reported on Thursday the salary that the Spanish club hopes to pay the Argentine as they also look to comply with La Liga’s salary cap.
The Catalan side will reportedly offer Messi a gross annual salary of €25 million to convince him to return to the club this summer. Barcelona’s proposal to the 35-year-old would be four times less than he received before leaving the club in 2021.
Regarding the term of the proposed offer, Barcelona will be giving the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner a two-year contract to return to Camp Nou.
Barcelona hopes this bid will be enough to convince Messi to reunite with the Spanish club. The Argentine isn’t reportedly willing to take a pay cut at PSG, so it will be interesting to see whether he does so for the La Liga side.
MLS side Inter Miami remains an option for Messi, but it appears the PSG star is keen on staying in Europe. Still, if the Barcelona option closes, he may consider leaving for the United States.
