Lionel Messi has yet to decide where he’ll play the 2023-24 season, but where ever the 35-year-old chooses to sign, don’t expect him to take a pay cut with his wages.
French media outlet Le Parisien reported on Tuesday that Messi’s father, Jorge, believes that winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup should be considered in his son’s new contract and thus generate this salary increase.
Additionally, the information provided by Le Parisien reveals (h/t Canal Supporters) that the Qataris have the means to give more money to Messi but do not wish to revise the contract to provide him with a salary raise.
If PSG were to keep Messi for next season, they would want him to keep the same wages he earned in the last two seasons. So it will be interesting to see the number that the Argentine is okay earning.
Nonetheless, money isn’t the absolute priority as the report also reveals that the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner has no interest in heading to Saudi Arabia as a deal there would have made him the highest-paid player in football.
