Messi Could Break a Legendary Ronaldo Record in PSG’s Ligue 1 Fixture vs. RC Lens

Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi has reached multiple feats as of late, and he is on the doorstep of shattering another notable record.

Messi snapped his Ligue 1 goal-scoring drought in PSG’s recent away fixture against OGC Nice. The Argentine forward scored PSG’s first goal of the contest, and the Ligue 1 powerhouse did not look back from there, as it went on to clinch a 2-0 win on matchday 30.

Overall, Messi has scored 494 goals in Europe’s top five leagues. The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner is a mere two such goals away from breaking Cristiano Ronaldo’s record for the most goals scored in Europe’s top five leagues.

Messi’s 494 goals in Europe’s top five leagues have come with Barcelona (474) and PSG (20). On the other hand, Ronaldo tallied 495 goals in Europe’s top five leagues with Real Madrid (311), Manchester United (103), and Juventus (81).

Messi will have a golden opportunity to break this record in PSG’s upcoming Ligue 1 home fixture against second-place side RC Lens. He is expected to tag along with Kylian Mbappe upfront in PSG’s possible 3-5-2 setup on matchday 31.
