Paris Saint-Germain has not had much to go its way in the second half of the season. PSG still holds the top spot in the Ligue 1 standings, but its season has been marred by its early exits in the Coupe de France and UEFA Champions League competitions.
There is much that concerns PSG manager Christophe Galtier about his team’s recent performances, especially as it has come away with a mere one win from its last four matches in all competitions. Among them, Galtier sees that PSG has had a fair share of struggles when it does not maintain possession.
“We’ve been taking too many goals lately, our ability to defend as a block is very average,” Galtier said during a pre-match press conference on Friday.
“We need to have a better balance and make our game attractive again. That we can project faster and more often to put pressure on our opponent.”
PSG has allowed a total of eight goals in its last five fixtures in all competitions. Overall, the reigning Ligue 1 champions have tallied a mere three clean sheets in the calendar year, one of which came in their 7-0 win over US Pays de Cassel in Coupe de France play.
PSG will have a crucial opportunity to get back on the right track from a defensive standpoint on Ligue 1 matchday 30, especially as it will meet an OGC Nice side that has scored the fewest goals (38) among all teams that currently hold a top-10 standing in the league table.
