Former French forward Jerome Rothen has called for Paris Saint-Germain to part ways with Lionel Messi, Sergio Ramos, Marco Verratti, and Marquinhos.
PSG will soon have pivotal decisions to make regarding the futures of both Messi and Ramos at the club. Messi and Ramos will each become a free agent in the upcoming summer transfer window, as the two signed off on two-year free transfer agreements in 2021.
Speaking on RMC Sport’s “Rothen s’enflamme” program, Rothen took some time to touch on notable moves that PSG must consider making after this season. Among them, Rothen noted that his former club should not look to keep both Messi and Ramos.
“There are others, like Lionel Messi, at the end of his contract, who is not to be extended, or Sergio Ramos, also at the end of his contract,” Rothen said. “Me, I would go more on those players, it’s more feasible.”
Rothen added that PSG should also look to offload Verratti and Marquinhos. The Italian international signed off on a two-year extension with PSG in December, while the Brazilian center-back has reportedly been in talks with the club regarding a possible new contract deal.
“Verratti, you put him on the transfer market, even if he has extended for a short time, I think there are clubs that will go,” Rothen said. “There will be suitors to take Verratti but also to take Marquinhos. It’s hard when I say that, because he is your captain. But these guys symbolize the failure of PSG in the European Cup.”
PSG sure is set for quite a chaotic summer transfer window later this year.
