Boca Juniors Legend Eyes Having Lionel Messi at Farewell Match, per Report

Former Villarreal and Boca Juniors legend Juan Román Riquelme retired from football eight years ago, but he’s postponed having one last match at La Bombonera. However, that could change this year, with Lionel Messi possibly being involved.

Riquelme has cited different circumstances, such as the elections at Boca Juniors, where he’s the vice president; other aspects that have led to him pushing back his farewell game are the pandemic and the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Nonetheless, journalist Matías Bustos Milla revealed (h/t Planeta BJ) information about organizing Maxi Rodríguez’s farewell with Messi and Luis Suarez, which would likely occur in June.

Furthermore, the presence of Messi doesn’t stop there as there is also the idea, if the times allow, to organize Rodríguez’s event on the 23rd and 24th and the Riquelme event on the 24th or 25th at La Bombonera, also with the presence of Messi.

Riquelme also expressed his interest in holding the farewell match this year and having the presence of the Paris Saint Germain star, with whom he has a great relationship.
