Lionel Messi will become a free agent when his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires in June. The last few months have presented various twists and turns about whether the Argentine will remain in the French capital.
FC Barcelona is preparing for a possible reunion, but the capital club might play spoiler for what the Spanish club has planned this summer. Florent Torchut, a journalist for France Football and L’Equipe, reported on Tuesday that PSG remains his first choice in the Messi sweepstakes.
However, Torchut also notes that should negotiations fail, Xavi and Barcelona are on the lookout as they’re the possible Plan B in case the Argentine cannot remain in Paris.

Torchut adds that as of today, neither Messi, PSG, Barça, nor anyone on this earth knows where the veteran goal scorer will play for the 2023-24 season. Nonetheless, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner’s future lies at Barcelona or PSG.
Two keys will decide which of the two clubs ends up with Messi for next season: The sports project first, then his salary.
It should be interesting to see which of these two sides ends up with Messi, but if it isn’t Barcelona, expect their supporters to be heartbroken again.
