Barcelona ‘Focused’ on La Liga Amid Rumors of Pursuing Messi This Summer

FC Barcelona is keen on reuniting with Lionel Messi, whose contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires in June; however, the Spanish club can only provide an update many times on their pursuit.

Manager Xavi Hernandez was speaking to the media, where reporters asked the Spanish tactician about the latest surrounding the Catalan’s pursuit of the 35-year-old.

“Alba and Busquets having dinner with Messi? I went for desserts later [laughs],” Xavi told reporters (h/t Barca Universal). “No, they have not told me anything about Messi.

“These are hypotheses. We are focused on La Liga, nothing else. I like to talk about Leo, we have a very good relationship, but right now, it’s time for Rayo.”

Messi will have a few options to decide where to play in the 2023-24 season. The 2022 FIFA World Cup winner might push for a reunion with the La Liga club or maybe work out a contract extension with PSG.

However, there’s also the possibility that the veteran goal scorer can leave Europe for the MLS, as Inter Miami is an option if he wants to continue his career in the United States.

It will be interesting to see what Messi decides to do with his future, but don’t expect those involved, like Barcelona, to give weekly updates on their pursuit of the PSG star.
