Why PSG Project would appeal Olympique Lyon’s €27M Talent

Paris Saint-Germain sporting advisor Luis Campos will attempt to Frenchify the capital club this summer transfer window.

CBS Sports reporter Jonathan Johnson discussed the targets the French giants could be in the mix, including Olympique Lyonnais attacking midfielder Rayan Cherki. The 19-year-old is heavily linked to the Ligue 1 side and could be on the move in a few months.

“Perhaps most interesting of all, given that PSG has already tried for him, is versatile OL attacking talent Cherki who will surely be a target again this summer,” Johns wrote in his PSG Talk column. “Still, only 19 despite approaching 100 senior appearances, the opportunity to snare him could be opening up with Lyon against it to secure European qualification now that they have crashed out of the Coupe de France.

“Cherki will be in demand given his skillset, but the chance to be part of a rebuilt attacking unit alongside Mbappé might appeal—especially as part of an influx of French talent.”

Cherki is under contract until 2024, so this summer, Lyon will need to decide whether they want to have the teenager enter the 2023-24 season as a pending free agent. As a result, PSG’s Ligue 1 side rival could be looking to sell.”

Regarding a possible transfer fee, Transfermarkt puts Cherki’s value at €27 million, which would be in the neighborhood of what a club might need to pay for a player with one more left on his contract.

This 2022-23 season, Cherki has appeared in 32 games, scoring four goals and recording five assists.
