Pundit Sees Lionel Messi ‘Disconnected’ at PSG After 2022 World Cup Win

Paris Saint-Germain crashed out in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16, losing 2-0 (3-0 on aggregate) to Bayern Munich on Wednesday at Allianz Arena. As a result, plenty of criticism is thrown at the squad, and one of the primary targets is Lionel Messi.

During Marca Radio’s “La Tribu,” the show’s panel discussed the latest exit, with Ricardo Rosety stating that the 35-year-old has checked out mentally since winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

“Maybe at PSG, what is happening at Madrid with the galacticos, when Florentino left, said he had been rude to them,” Rosety said Thursday.

“We always focus on one player or another, but what failed yesterday was the team. The only one who rebelled was Sergio Ramos. Messi did not appear as he was expected. Messi’s main goal was the World Cup and now he is a bit disconnected”

There’s no denying that Messi used the first half of the 2022-23 season to prepare himself for the World Cup in Qatar and that since club football has returned from the break, the Argentine doesn’t look the same.

However, Messi is 35 years old; at some point, age becomes a factor, and he’s not the same player anymore. As a result, it would be in PSG’s best interest to move on and use the wages they currently use on Messi toward other players to improve the squad.
