Lionel Messi has not been immune to criticism during his two seasons at Paris Saint-Germain. The Argentine has yet to play to the level many expected, especially in the UEFA Champions League knockout stages.
The capital club has exited in the Round of 16 in back-to-back years with Messi as the team has fallen to Real Madrid and Bayern Munich. During an interview with Canal Plus (h/t Paris Fans), former PSG defender Maxwell discussed the criticism Messi has received recently.
“Football does not forgive,” Maxwell said. “But I think there are things that are not respectful towards what he has done for football. And what he still does. He has just won the World Cup.
“There are people who talk about him, and for me, it’s a lack of respect for the player and everything he has shown until today. I know it’s normal criticism, but sometimes it’s disrespectful.”
Messi’s decline has many stating that the French giants shouldn’t extend the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner. RMC Sport recently revealed the latest regarding the extension talks between the two sides.
The French media outlet notes that PSG isn’t willing to meet the salary demands Messi’s camp wants as the Argentine eyes earning wages near what Kylian Mbappé makes.
Nonetheless, with the veteran forward’s age and need to add depth to the squad, it wouldn’t be wise to meet that demand. As a result, unless Messi wants to take a pay cut, it’s hard to envision him remaining.
BS..You can’t ” Buy” championship. You need a team around a guy like Messi. Bayern proved you don’t need billions of Petro Dollars to win.
Messi need passion and PSG is dealing with money only
