Lionel Messi Leads Europe’s Top 5 Leagues in This Impressive Goals Stat

Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi shined for the Argentina national team in its pair of friendly wins against Panama and Curacao in the March international break. The Argentine forward combined for five goal contributions over the contests.

As noted by WhoScored, Messi has recorded a combined 56 goal contributions for club and country in all competitions so far this season, which leads all players in Europe’s top five leagues. PSG forward Kylian Mbappe ranks second on this leaderboard with 52 such goal contributions, with 10 goal contributions coming in the UEFA Champions League competition.

As PSG has 10 fixtures remaining on its Ligue 1 schedule, Messi does have a realistic chance to finish the season with at least 70 goal contributions. Overall, he has chipped in with 13 goals and 13 assists in Ligue 1 play this season.

Messi is slated to return to action in PSG’s upcoming Ligue 1 home fixture against Olympique Lyonnais. The Argentine international last faced Lyon in September, when he scored the game-winning goal in the Ligue 1 contest.
