Kylian Mbappe bolstered his 2023 Ballon d’Or resume on Ligue 1 matchday 26, leading Paris Saint-Germain to a 4-2 home win over Nantes. Mbappe’s late goal in the contest was the 201st of his PSG career, which broke a tie with Edinson Cavani for the most scores in club history.
Mbappe has not come close to winning the Ballon d’Or award in his career, as he has not even finished in the top three in any vote for the honor. This is expected to change this year, as the French international is currently among the serious contenders for the 2023 Ballon d’Or honor.
During a press conference following PSG’s league victory over Nantes, Mbappe noted that he aspires to one day win the sport’s most prestigious individual honor.
“It’s always a goal for players in my category, but it’s not the priority,” Mbappe said. “Nor the period. But of course, it’s in the back of my mind, it’s normal.
“If it continues like this, I think we won’t be very far.”
Mbappe currently leads Ligue 1 in goals with 18.
Mbappe must thank Lionel Messi for that.
