Gerard Pique Delivers Honest Take on Messi’s PSG Future Amid Barcelona Return Rumors

Paris Saint-Germain will have multiple dilemmas to address in the coming months, including the future of Lionel Messi at the club. Messi is set to become a free agent for the second time in his career in the upcoming summer transfer window.

PSG is interested in extending Messi’s stay at the club, and Barcelona has been linked with a possible reunion with the Argentine forward. However, Messi’s father, Jorge, did note last month that he does not “think” that the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner will return to Barca because the “conditions are not there.”

Gerard Pique was a teammate of Messi’s for over 10 years at Barca. The former Spanish defender would not be surprised to see Messi decide to stay put in Europe.

“About his future, only he knows,” Pique told RAC1. “I think the World Cup was the great dream he had, the title he was missing to be considered the best in history. And from now on, everything he decides is more a personal matter of where to find happiness.

“If he is still motivated, it is normal that he will stay in Europe and Barca may enter in his plans. … For the Cules, who know how much he has made us feel, it would be great for all the Cules if he came back, on a sentimental level.”

Messi has so far scored 18 goals in all competitions for PSG this season.
