Neymar Jr. appears to be out for Paris Saint-Germain’s clashes against FC Nantes on Saturday at the Parc des Princes, but more importantly, the UEFA Champions Leagues second leg contest against FC Bayer Munich on Wednesday at Allianz Arena.
Manager Christophe Galtier provided the latest update on the 31-year-old and noted how the absence of the superstar forward has him making changes to his tactical game plan.
“In the next two matches, we won’t have Ney available,” Galtier told reporters Friday (h/t Canal Supporters). “Our block is much more compact, denser. With the absence of Ney, instead of having two midfielders, we will be with three midfielders and two attackers. To tell you that Ney’s absence is trivial, no. This is a detrimental absence for us.”
Without Neymar, the PSG attack shouldn’t suffer too much as Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi tormented the Olympique de Marseille defense in the 3-0 victory last Sunday at the Stade Vélodrome.
If the duo can replicate their performance on the road against Bayern Munich, there’s no doubt that the capital club can overturn the 1-0 aggregate score hole the team currently finds itself in.
Additionally, should Messi and Mbappe power PSG into advancing into the quarterfinals, there will be plenty of discussion about where Neymar fits in the starting 11.
