Galtier Explains Why Injuries Should Be To Blame for PSG’s Champions League Exit vs. Bayern Munich

Paris Saint-Germain failed to advance to the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal round for the second consecutive year. Bayern Munich had the last laugh in its Champions League round of 16 tie against PSG, clinching a 3-0 aggregate win on Wednesday.

PSG entered this fixture with several injury concerns. Among them, PSG recently ruled out Neymar for the remainder of this season due to his nagging ankle injury, while Marquinhos suffered a ribs ailment during the Ligue 1 side’s home win over Nantes, but manager Christophe Galtier still penciled him in to start against Bayern Munich.

Speaking to Canal+ after the match, Galtier noted that the one major difference between PSG and Bayern Munich on Wednesday was his team’s injury woes.

“The availability of the workforce, we have many important absentees in the first and second leg,” Galtier said. “We had to change two central defenders before the break. This obviously cost us a lot.

“Bayern were dominant in the first leg, but we showed a completely different face tonight. It’s not enough, of course.”

PSG will now feature in just Ligue 1 fixtures for the rest of the season.
