Xavi Simons has flourished since arriving at PSV Eindhoven. The former Paris Saint-Germain youth product has run with the playing time and significant role on the Dutch side and turned himself into a bright player.
As a result, many wonder if the capital club will convince Simons to trigger the clause, which will last until 2024, in his current contract, allowing him to return to PSG for €12 million.
In his latest PSG Talk column, CBS Sports reporter Johnathan Johnson gave the latest regarding a possible reunion between the French giants and Simons.
“Xavi Simons could yet return to Paris after a sensational season with PSV Eindhoven despite the Dutch giants doing everything to avoid that eventuality,” Johnson wrote. “The fee will never be lower than it is under the current agreement so a definitive decision must be made now.”
Johnson is correct regarding the fee never being lower and with Financial Fair Play monitoring the Ligue 1 side, nabbing a player of Simons’ caliber is a no-brainer. However, PSV isn’t going to let the player waltz his way out of the club.
In a recent interview, Marcel Brands, PSV’s director of football, believes that the club can secure Simons to a new contract that would eliminate that clause. So it will be interesting to see what occurs this summer.
