Exclusive: French Football Journalist Delivers Honest Take on Neymar’s PSG Future

Paris Saint-Germain is expected to have quite a hectic summer transfer window this year. There will be multiple transfer storylines to watch for PSG, including the future of Neymar at the club.

Neymar’s sixth season at PSG was cut short due to injury. The Brazilian forward suffered a season-ending ankle injury during PSG’s Ligue 1 home fixture against Lille OSC. He underwent ankle surgery last Friday.

In his weekly PSG Talk column, CBS Sports reporter and PSG Talk columnist Jonathan Johnson took some time to look ahead to the Ligue 1 side’s upcoming summer transfer window. Johnson noted that unless PSG can pull off a notable move such as parting ways with Neymar, the club will be in for a “tricky” transfer window.

“Short of sacrificing a big name or a miracle happening which enables PSG to sever their ties with the problematic Neymar, which has been hoped for the past year or two, this is going to be a tricky summer for the French champions financially,” Johnson said.

Johnson added that the Brazilian international is “likely to be too injured to be transferred.”

Neymar was in the rumor mill in last year’s summer window regarding a possible move away from PSG. However, PSG football advisor Luis Campos downplayed these rumors in September, noting that the forward was “not on the way out.”

Neymar capped off his sixth season at PSG with 18 goals scored in all competitions.
