Didier Deschamps Slams Argentina for Celebrations Aimed at Kylian Mbappé

A few months have passed since Argentina and France’s thrilling 2022 FIFA World Cup final in Qatar last December. The South American side would win in penalty kicks, leading to celebrations aimed at Kylian Mbappé.

Emiliano Martínez was the primary player whose antics went viral toward the 24-year-old—in an interview with Le Figaro (h/t RMC Sport), France national team manager Didier Deschamps addressed the celebrations aimed at his players.

“Inadmissible facts and attitudes,” Deschamps told the French media outlet. “I have no problem with them jumping on the roofs, being happy, but the notion of respect did not exist. Nobody deserves that, especially not Kylian. There were apologies afterward … Some situations have gone too far.”

The game was highly contested, with Argentina jumping to a 2-0 lead. However, Mbappé scored a brace in the final minutes of the second half to push the game to extra time.

Messi would score his brace in extra time to give Argentina the 3-2 lead, but then Mbappé converted a penalty kick to tie the contest and record a hat-trick. Nonetheless, the French man’s heroics would fall short as the CONMEBOL side won 4-2 in penalty kicks to claim the nation’s third World Cup.
