Why Messi Capable of Leading PSG’s Attack With No Mbappe, Neymar, Ex-Nantes Player Believes

Paris Saint-Germain had to play almost two games without Kylian Mbappe and Neymar Jr. The 24-year-old exited the contest against Montpellier with an injury; meanwhile, the Brazilian has dealt with a groin matter.

Until one of those players gets back, the attacking leadership falls on Lionel Messi and through two games, the Argentine is more than capable of heading PSG’s offense for the time being.

Additionally, former FC Nantes defender Nestor Fabbri believes that Messi can hold down the fort, especially in Ligue 1 and keep PSG in first place as the capital club navigates through this recent run of injuries to its squad.

“I remind you that we are talking about Messi the extraterrestrial, there, a player who has just confirmed at the World Cup that he was the best today on the planet,” Fabbri told Le Parisien (h/t Paris Fans).

“Whether he plays with or without Neymar and Mbappe, it doesn’t change the fact that it’s a chance for Paris to have him in their squad. And, even if the others are important, it still seems feasible to me to keep first place in Ligue 1 with a player of this caliber.”

Messi has scored two goals in the last two games as the focal point of the attack for the French giants. However, suppose Neymar cannot go in the Coupe de France Round of 16 clash against Olympique de Marseille on Wednesday at the Stade Vélodrome. In that case, it will be the 35-year-old’s most significant task domestically.

After not winning the Coupe de France last season, the veteran will need to be at his best to ensure that PSG exits the hostile environment with a win.
