‘We Were a Bit Surprised’ – Bayern Munich’s Nagelsmann Reacts to PSG’s Tactics in the Champions League First Leg

Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann has said that he was left “surprised” with the tactics in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie between his side and Paris Saint-Germain.

Bayern Munich clinched a 1-0 win in the first leg of its Champions League tie against PSG on Tuesday. The reigning Bundesliga champions won the possession battle over the Ligue 1 powerhouse, and they also recorded nine more total shots in the contest. A goal from Kingsley Coman in the second half was all that Nagelsmann’s squad needed to notch a victory.

PSG was a bit conservative with its play in the first half of this fixture, which Nagelsmann did not expect to see coming into the match.

“We played really well in the first 25 minutes,” Nagelsmann said after the contest. “We were a bit surprised by how much of the ball we had.

“We didn’t expect Paris to be so passive; it was a good first half.”

PSG failed to tally a single shot on target in the first half against Bayern Munich, but it did manage to respond in the latter half with four such shots recorded.

The return leg of this Champions League round of 16 tie is set for March 8.
