Before joining Paris Saint-Germain, Sergio Ramos had countless battles with Lionel Messi during their time in La Liga as part of the FC Barcelona-Real Madrid rivalry.
However, after two seasons with the Argentine as his teammate, Ramos is now seeing Messi in a new light. In an interview with PSG TV (h/t GOAL), the 36-year-old defender noted that the Argentine star is one of the greatest talents that football has ever had.
“There was suffering for several years playing against Messi,” Ramos said. “I am now enjoying him. He is the best player football has ever produced.”
Messi settled the GOAT debate with Ramos’ former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo after the PSG star lifted the 2022 FIFA World Cup last December. The two best players of their generation chased that coveted trophy and its Messi that ended up winning the tournament in Qatar.
Once bitter enemies with classic photos being taken between Messi and Ramos having heated exchanges in El Classico. There appears to be mutual respect, with both players being teammates as they attempt to win PSG its first UEFA Champions League trophy.
