Sergio Ramos ‘No Longer Surprised’ By Lionel Messi’s Heroics After Free Kick Goal vs. Lille

It was a rollercoaster 4-3 win for Paris Saint-Germain against Lille OSC on Sunday at the Parc des Princes. The contest began with the capital club jumping to a 2-0 lead and it appeared as though they’d cruise to three points.

However, that was far from the case. Lille scored three unanswered goals as PSG found itself in a 3-2 hole. Kylian Mbappe scored the game-tying goal and Lionel Messi provided the game-winning free-kick goal in stoppage time.

After the PSG victory, Sergio Ramos spoke with Prime Video, stating that there are no words to explain the late-game magic that Messi can provide to the team. Furthermore, the veteran defender noted that he rather have Messi as a teammate than as a rival.

“I am no longer surprised by Messi,” Ramos said postgame (h/t AS). “At Barça, he was used to deciding games like he did today. I am glad that he is now in my team. Of course, it is better to have him as a teammate. Whoever you give Messi to choose for or against, the response is quick and sincere.”

Finally, Ramos shared the relationship with Messi now that the two have been teammates for a while at PSG after being adversaries for so many years in the FC Barcelona-Real Madrid rivalry.

“It is something that arouses a lot of curiosity,” Ramos continued. “But we have the same goal: To win with PSG. We want to make the team better with our experience and good performances. My relationship with Messi is excellent. There is great respect among the players.”
