Former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Xavi Simons is having a great first season with PSV Eindhoven. However, the preparation for being thrust into the starting 11 with one of the biggest clubs in the Netherlands could be dated back to his time with the French giants.
In a recent interview with Marca, Simons was asked about his time with PSG, particularly last season when he was training regularly alongside Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, Neymar Jr. and Sergio Ramos.
“The day-to-day with them is incredible,” Simons said. “See them train … imagine. Also, Ramos, Marquinhos people you’ve seen on TV all your life and now training with them and being able to play, I think it’s been very nice.”
While for Simons, having trained with these superstar players was a surreal moment for him, the 19-year-old had to decide and leave to begin playing prominent minutes and growing as a footballer.
“That was my objective and to be able to debut with the national team and to be able to play every weekend,” Simons continued. “You are not going to play by coming; you have to show it in each training session. It is not written, but I did come to my country and that was my goal.”
PSG hopes they can buy back their midfielder, as the French giants do have a window to trigger that clause, which begins this upcoming suffer transfer window. However, it’s Simons who decides whether he wants to return to Paris, continue at PSV, or perhaps try an adventure at another club.
