Neymar Jr. suffered an ankle injury in Paris Saint-Germain’s 4-3 comeback victory over Lille OSC last Sunday at the Parc des Princes.
The 31-year-old will miss the contest against Olympique de Marseille on Sunday. However, his status for the UEFA Champions League second-leg clash when PSG faces Bayern Munich on March 8 at Allianz Arena remains unknown.
PSG legend Pauleta spoke with AS, where the Spanish media outlet asked him about the capital club having to play that contest without the Brazilian in the starting 11.
“PSG has players like Neymar, [Lionel] Messi and [Kylian] Mbappe; it is a pity for us as fans that Neymar is not there because they are players who make the difference in a match and who are different from all the others,” Pauleta said.
“It will be the opportunity for other players. It is a classic that everyone wants to play, Neymar is a phenomenon and we don’t know if he will also be able to be in the Champions League match.”
The French giants find themselves in a 1-0 hole as Bayern Munich has a slight advantage but will be playing at home. If PSG has to play without Neymar, it will be up to Mbappe and Messi to carry the attack.
Both players have the talent to be significant factors in the contest; it will be interesting to see if they rise to the occasion or perhaps the capital club will be dealt another Champions League disappointment.
