Messi-PSG Extension Talks Should ‘Intensify’ Soon, According to French Football Journalist

For the last few weeks, there have been reports regarding the future of Lionel Messi and whether or not the 35-year-old will extend with Paris Saint-Germain.

While there hasn’t been much advancement toward an official agreement, L’Equipe’s and France Football journalist Florent Torchut reported on Monday, citing sources, that talks between Messi and PSG are expected to accelerate after the UEFA Champions League round of 16 first leg against Bayern Munich on Tuesday.

“The discussions between #Messi & the #PSG should intensify after the 8th first leg against Bayern,” Torchut tweeted on Monday. “His father is due to see the Parisian leaders again soon to discuss the duration of the contract and his salary. Leo Messi would like to extend his Parisian adventure.”

It will be interesting to see whether these conversations pick up and lead to an extension that might keep Messi until the 2024 Copa America. Nonetheless, along with PSG, Inter Miami seems to be the other serious player in the sweepstakes.

However, Saudi Arabian clubs could also be lurking after seeing Cristiano Ronaldo arrive at Al-Nassr. Messi’s contract expires in June and until the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner decides on his future for next season, there will be plenty of reporting and speculation as to where he’s going.
