Messi left speechless after being told that he broke this unreal World Cup record

Lionel Messi made plenty of history during Argentina’s 2022 FIFA World Cup-winning run.

For one, Messi became the first player to score at least one goal in every round of a single World Cup knockout stage. He scored in Argentina’s thrilling wins against Australia, Netherlands, Croatia, and France. In the World Cup final against the France national team, the Argentine forward managed to notch a double, as he helped La Albiceleste win the sport’s biggest tournament.

During an interview with the Argentine-based outlet Ole, Messi was asked about becoming the first player ever to score a goal in every round of a single World Cup. The Paris Saint-Germain star was left in awe of his own accomplishment.

“I don’t know, what do I know,” Messi said. “It was incredible, the whole World Cup was incredible beyond the personal aspect, how I lived it, how I enjoyed it.

“I always said in the mixed zone that I was living it in a different way, that I enjoyed it much more as I did in the Copa America. I was very relaxed, very calm, very confident in us. I felt very good personally and nothing, what do I know, things were happening almost unintentionally. We were so good that things came by themselves.”

Overall, Messi finished with 10 goal contributions in the tournament, including two assists in the knockout stage.
