Matthijs de Ligt reveals his mindset to facing PSG’s Lionel Messi, Neymar in the Champions League round of 16

Matthijs de Ligt has said that Bayern Munich must be at its “best” when it meets Paris Saint-Germain forwards Lionel Messi and Neymar in the Champions League round of 16 on Tuesday.

PSG is expected to be without Kylian Mbappe for its upcoming matchup against Bayern Munich due to his thigh injury. On the other hand, PSG manager Christophe Galtier confirmed on Friday that Messi, who has been dealing with a nagging hamstring ailment as of late, is slated to be available to face the reigning Bundesliga champions.

For de Ligt, he is well aware that his side will need to up its game on Tuesday in order to contain both Messi and Neymar.

“We have to be at our best,” de Ligt said following Bayern Munich’s 3-0 home league victory over VfL Bochum on Saturday. “Everybody knows what quality they have. They are amazing players.

“The most important thing is that we stay fit, and we are concentrated.”

Bayern Munich has allowed a mere 18 goals in Bundesliga play so far this season. Messi and Neymar have combined to score 22 goals in the ongoing Ligue 1 campaign.
