Lionel Messi’s ‘Advanced Age’ Reason Why PSG Should Move On, Ex-Player Believes

The future of Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi remains in the air as rumors of an extension or a possible departure continue dominating the news cycle as his contract expires in June.

There have been many opinions by pundits weighing in on what should happen. Former PSG player Eric Rabésandratana believes it’s time for the capital club to say goodbye to Messi.

“He is starting to be at an advanced age,” Rabésandratana told Le Parisien (h/t Paris Fans). “He really poses a problem with the design of the game at PSG. When you have a Lionel Messi, you have to play everything for him in fact.

“However, at PSG, we are not going to play everything for him but everything for Kylian Mbappé. Nor does it register in the spirit. We need guys who surpass themselves, warriors. Look at a Danilo. For me, he is a real PSG player.”

Additionally, Rabésandratana stated that the French giants should hold onto the money they’d pay the 35-year-old and use it to secure other players that can fill the needs on the squad.

“I want to say to Paris: Keep your money and buy three players rather than extend Messi!” Rabésandratana continued. “All his life, we played for him. Iniesta, Xavi… And that’s normal because once he took the ball he made the difference. Except that today, it doesn’t make the same difference; it doesn’t have the same benchmarks.”

Should Messi exit this summer, there will be plenty of options for him to land, including Inter Miami and, if the rumors are to believe, FC Barcelona. There’s also the possible interest from Saudi Arabia.

It will be interesting to see whether or not Messi decides to remain in the French capital or continue his football career elsewhere.
