Galtier Reveals Mood of PSG Squad After French Cup Elimination vs. Marseille

The Coupe de France pursuit is over for Paris Saint-Germain after they fell 2-1 to Olympique de Marseille on Wednesday at the Stade Vélodrome. The capital club’s elimination marks the second straight they won’t be lifting the domestic cup.

After the loss to their eternal rival, manager Christophe Galtier revealed the mood of the PSG squad after their elimination.

“The players are obviously disappointed, overwhelmed,” Galtier told beIN Sports (h/t Canal Supporters). “For now, I think it’s not the time to talk hot. Obviously, we have to remobilize, continue to work and focus on ourselves to find the energy to be more efficient.”

Along with Galtier, Marquinhos also discussed what went wrong for PSG as the squad only generated eight total shots; meanwhile, Marseille generated 16.

“We know that they do good pressing,” Marquinhos told beIN Sports. “We couldn’t get their line to jump. We made a few mistakes that cost us the goal. We need to be better organized. There’s no point adding more here.

“We know what we need to improve. You have to work. It’s a defeat that hurts. It’s a Cup game against our great opponent. We wanted to come back to Paris with victory and qualification. Now you have to close your mouth, work and keep going forward.”

PSG will need to put the elimination behind them as they now focus on AS Monaco for a Ligue 1 clash on Saturday at the Stade Louis-II. However, after that matchup, they’ll need to begin the most significant task of the 2022-23 season, FC Bayern Munich.

The French giants will welcome the Bundesliga side on Tuesday at the Parc des Princes. If PSG cannot come out of the first leg with a positive result, the elimination won’t be the only thing angering the fan base.
